Percy the Small Engine was initially introduced in the Railway Series set of Children’s books, which were authored by Rev. Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry. Percy’s popularity really took off when the tv series Thomas and Friends was launched.

Percy the Small Engine was among the last engines to arrive at the Island of Sodor. He lives together with the other steam engine locomotives, we all know and love: Thomas the Tank Engine, Gordon, and Henry. Percy is known as the youngest of the steam engines trains. In the beginning I used to get all the steam engines confused, but as time continued I figured all of it out, and I  understand that Percy is the small green steam engine using the number 6 shown on his bunker. Thomas The Tank Engine, commonly known at Thomas & Friends in the USA, has been entertaining children and adults of all ages since 1945, when the Rev. Awdry started his story line called The railway Series.

The Railway Series is a set of story books about a railway system located on the fictional Island of Sodor. There are 41 books in the series, the first being published in 1945. Twenty-six were written by the Rev. W. (Wilbert) Awdry, up to 1972. A further 15 were written by his son, Christopher Awdry; 14 between 1983 and 1996 and a further book in 2007. Another book is due for release in 2011. (more…)
